That would be ME. Got an email yesterday announcing that our local university is going to offer two dual-enrollment classes online this semester! This is really big news – in the past dual-enrollment was only offered IN the public high schools and wasn’t available to home educators. We will save $745 for every three credit [...]

Our plans for 2010-2011 are still a work in progress! But, my curriculum plans are ALWAYS a work in progress and always written in pencil. Somehow I’d thought that by the time I had high school students we’d be somewhat set in our ways. I was very wrong! Flower Child (12) is entering 7th grade. [...]

Interestingly, Sharon Astyk blogged about unschooling this week. She does touch on some of the things that were troubling me. I still like many of the ideas about unschooling, but it just doesn’t ‘feel’ right in our home school. Maybe it’s about me and my control issues and maybe that’s not a bad thing. I [...]

It’s hard to believe that I’m now planning the final ‘year’ of school for my oldest. Time sure has flown since that day way back when he cried for hours because he thought we were ruining his life. Amazingly, it’s been a much more difficult task to plan for a high school senior. The school [...]

Austin finally finished his decade summary paper for the 1950s. Just in time… School starts on Monday! It is the best paper he’s written to date. Praying he keeps up this caliber of work for the remainder of Core 300!
COLLEGE EDUCATION: 'More Options' are Meaningless!

Okay. I need to scream. That’s what blogs are for, right? There is a rather heated conversation on the Parenting forums at Sonlight. Over and over and over again, people are saying “My kids MUST go to college because they’ll have <get ready><here it comes> MORE OPTIONS.” HELLO PEOPLE! More options mean nothing. Zero. Zilch. [...]
$4,700 Mobile Phone Bill?!

Texting gets teen grounded Sorry, I have ZERO sympathy for the parents. For a mere $10 a month added on to their regular plan those text messages would have cost nothing but the $10. And it’s not like this hasn’t been in the news recently. The article likes to make it sound like this girl [...]

I couldn’t resist snapping this picture. Big sister and little sister sitting side by side on big sister’s bed, working on their math. Flower Child has an old laptop sitting in front of her (it doesn’t even turn on) so she can be just like Princess with her laptop (which is running Saxon Teacher).

That would be my crockpot. I think any parent of socially active homeschooled teenagers should own at least one. Or two. Or even three. I have three. A Year of Crockpotting This site has the best slow cooker recipes I’ve ever seen in print. Even better than the Fix It and Forget It book. Generally, [...]
