I hope I don’t catch it!

Cultural attitude, that is.
For Better or Worse - June 19, 2008

I can’t wait to be ’shackled’ to my grandchildren!  I pray that I may still be ’shackled’ to more children every single day!

Not useless anymore!

But now we don’t know what to call it.  Hmmm.
Oh, I’m talking about The Useless Room.  Can’t remember if I’ve ever blogged about it before or not.  We have this room off the kitchen in our ranch house that has no purpose, therefore we call it The Useless Room.  It’s too narrow due to a [...]

I had one of THOSE moments today.  I was cleaning and decapitating 3 gallons of strawberries.  Unfortunately, the were a bit over-ripe and started to grow mold on the top.  As I was sorting the good from the bad, I could easily see how much I’ve changed in the last eight years.
In the 20th century, [...]

The Road Home…

Here’s a Newsweek article about the new television show The Secret Life of a Soccer Mom.
Okay.  I’ve BTDT.  Nice salary, dress-up clothes, built-in three-syllable-word-conversation friends, office with a door, flexible hours, restaurant lunches.   Yea.  Travel away from home twice a quarter, two preschoolers and a baby, deployed dh, daycare, sick kids, really sick kid, LAUNDRY, [...]

Muddle, muddle, muddle…

Time to muddle through my aspirations and goals for 2008.
Time to pull out the Sonlight Core 3 Instructor’s Guide and last year’s lesson book to figure out where Flower Child left off and to plan her future schedule.  She has one book left in Beautiful Feet’s History of the Horse.
Time to write out the January [...]

Itchy Feet

I’m not sure if I was born with itchy feet or if it’s a condition that I grew into.  Both of my grandfathers had itchy feet.  My mother lived in Omaha, Souix City, Council Bluffs, Lincoln, Plattsmouth, and Vermillion during her growing-up years.  My dad didn’t move quite as much, but did attend four different [...]

WE HAVE HEAT!

I was sorely remiss in not sharing this news immediately on Friday morning.  My apologies.
(See…  I told you once we had it, we wouldn’t appreciate it!)

(N)O Pioneers!

I am afraid that I do not live up to my pioneer ancestors strength of character.  I am physcially and mentally unable to drag myself out of my toasty warm bed when the temperature in the house is below 60 degrees.  I wonder, too, WHY anyone would subject themselves to such torture!
Now, in defense of [...]

Bread Baking Epiphany

Doesn’t this white bread look absolutely DIVINE?
I blogged before about my abyssimal bread-baking efforts in the lovely state of Kentucky.  This weekend, after eating yet another piece of tasteless (and evidently timeless) store-bought bread, I found my heart renewed and ready to tackle the challenge of making my own bread once again.  I’ve actually been [...]

Busted!

It seems to me that, whether it is recognized or not, there is a terrific frustration which increases in intensity and harmfulness as time goes on, when people are always daydreaming of the kind of place in which they would like to live, yet never making the place where they do live into anything artistically [...]

Indoor Gardening

After two years, I have finally bought plants for the inside of my house.  (We are never moving again…)  Too many times, I pour my heart and soul into a plant and then we move across the country.  Cross country moves tend to be hard on house plants.
My first peace lily (given to me by [...]

Jam and more jam…

Not complaining, though.  I’ve had so much fun this summer making all sorts of jam and jelly.  I’m sitting at the computer now, waiting for the water to boil for a hot-water bath.

I’ve made approximately 12 pints of strawberry jam, 4 pints of blueberry jam, 4 pints of peach preserves, and 12 pints of grape jelly.  [...]

Drought

I somehow feel compelled to let y’all know that the lovely picture at the top of my blog is now very out-of-date.  That field is now several shades of tan and brown.
We did, however, get a mild rainshower today.  Still praying for more.  (In moderation, please!)

I am not a Baptist nor do I play one on tv….  but news that a Baptist seminary is going to offer a homemaking program is too good to pass up.
The Rev. Benjamin Cole, pastor of Parkview Baptist Church in Arlington and a frequent Southern Baptist critic, wrote about the homemaking program on his blog.   [...]

Choosing to Live in the Country

Yea, I drive a lot.  But it is comforting to live in a place where I can just be.  Any time we choose we can just stop the rushing and be.  Be. At. Home.  There is no choosing to have a quiet place when you live in The City.  You are dependent on others to [...]
