I about tripped over the couch the first time I saw the new ad on television by the Corn Refiner’s Association. Who are these people kidding?
To take on the current vernacular of the 2008 presidential campaign, you can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig! No matter how you try to dress up sugar or high fructose corn syrup in slick packaging, it’s still gonna be harmful to your health and weight. Even when the the president of the Corn Refiner’s Association Audrae Erickson tries to convince you otherwise. That’s why HFCS should be avoided for people attempting to live a healthy lifestyle and treated like the rat poison that it is.
Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that sugar is some miracle “healing” substance and that HFCS is “just like sugar.” It’s a desperate ruse by The Sugar Association and The Corn Refiner’s Association to save their own interests. What these two organizations fail to realize is their gig is up and we’re on to them. They will do anything and everything within their power to prop up sugar and HFCS, but at the end of the day even THEY know their best days are behind them and it’s time to start looking for something else to push on the public.

Why now, though? I wonder. Duh! They have competition, of course.
But why run this massive ad campaign now? According to the Department of Agriculture, the demand for high fructose corn syrup has leveled off in the past few years.
High fructose corn syrup was generally cheaper to manufacture than sugar, but with the rise in demand for corn-based ethanol, the cost difference narrowed.

The Facts About High Fructose Corn Syrup (Just in case you wanted the whole scoop.)
And the opposing view: The Dangers of High Fructose Corn Syrup
The FACT is, I don’t want HFCS (or added sugar, for that matter) in my frozen or canned vegetables, toothpaste, juice, frozen or canned fruit. bread, or peanut butter. Of course, I learned a long time ago to read labels and won’t buy anything that has any kind of sugar as its first ingredient unless I am specifically buying a sweet treat.

Oh, Don’t Even Get Me Started on this one! This one makes me sooooo mad! I have to get some things done or I could write a lot more.
I guess I will make it into a blog post on my blog and air my feelings there!
