Sanity Soup

Also known as Italian Vegetable Soup.
Combine in a crockpot and cook at least four hours on low:

1 small bag dried cheese tortellini
1 bag frozen mixed vegetables (I use Kroger’s gumbo soup mix)
1 can garbanzo beans
1 can tomato sauce
1 can diced tomatoes
1 box beef broth (about 4 cups)
2 tsp salt, 1 Tbs basil, 2 tsp garlic [...]

Are these people SERIOUS?

Grand Canyon Skywalk

And they want me to PAY to risk my life and limb like this?  Who are they kidding?  I’ll keep my feet planted on Terra Firma, thankyouverymuch!!

Vote: Are wind turbines beautiful or ugly?
I am all for individual windmills, but square miles of windmills across formerly beautiful green earth is so hideous, it makes my heart ache.

Ms. Robin’s letter to the editors of Mother Earth News sparked them to do a survey about our opinions of [...]

Otherwise known as the Great American Contradiction.
We act as if we’re personally independent and can make our own decisions our own way; in reality, most people are entirely dependent on others for food, fuel to cook it, water, heat — in short, anything they really must have.

Catching Up

The Saturday before we left on our Thanksgiving adventure was more than just a little hectic.
With the last load of laundry in the washing machine (Or, “wash machine” as I call it.   Can’t remember which part of this beautiful  country gave me that bit of dialect.) and a load nearly dry in the dryer, the [...]

Merry Christmas!

And in the spirit of friendship there better not be any more comments implying that my recent roullette with the blog layout has anything to do with the whole moving thing….
I have spent the last week driving, driving, and driving.  And then we did some more driving.  I can’t believe I ever longed for hours [...]

Thoughts on the new look?

I like these colors with the header, but the font is SO, SO, SO, SO small!  For a fee I can upgrade and make changes of my own, but the code is not HTML and it all looks Greek to me.  No, wait a minute.  In Greek, I can recognize the letters at least.  It [...]

Itchy Feet

I’m not sure if I was born with itchy feet or if it’s a condition that I grew into.  Both of my grandfathers had itchy feet.  My mother lived in Omaha, Souix City, Council Bluffs, Lincoln, Plattsmouth, and Vermillion during her growing-up years.  My dad didn’t move quite as much, but did attend four different [...]

Sweet Saturday

Whew!  Glad that week is over!
Yup.  It was one of those weeks where we just rushed from one thing to the next.  Finish one thing and immediately start thinking about what I need to do for the next.  Every single day.  Twice, two things to do on the same day.  Made it through without forgetting [...]

Wow. Just wow.

I was given the gift of one of THOSE mommy moments today.  You know, one of those that sends shivers down your spine and goosebumps all the way to your toes.
I have the dubious misfortune honor of keeping the statistics for the girl’s basketball team.  This allows me to sit at center court, with full [...]

I’m afraid that I am a disgrace to my gender.  Supposedly, women are supposed to be icons of multitasking.  Yea right!  “They” forgot to check with me before they wrote that study!
Today’s tasks include bread baking and canning applesauce, in addition to the regular chores and school.  Of course, I couldn’t start the bread because [...]

WE HAVE HEAT!

I was sorely remiss in not sharing this news immediately on Friday morning.  My apologies.
(See…  I told you once we had it, we wouldn’t appreciate it!)

Whoo-hoo!  I bought a new coffee mug this week.  No, there wasn’t anything wrong with the old one.  Well, except that it is covered with pastel-ly spring and summer colors and I am in a decidedly earthy, fall state of mind.  I know for the average citizen the color of the mug isn’t as important [...]

Strong coffee ~ revisited

I guess I should point out to Richard (maybe he’s a young feller?) that in my mother and grandmother’s day midwest middle-class moms had exactly two choices of coffee:  Maxwell House and Folgers. :)  “Strong” coffee was made by adding more grounds and leaving the percolator perking longer.  Eventually, Maxwell House did introduce their Dark [...]
