Something about Something

Dh flew today from Nashville to Charlotte. He makes this trip frequently and the plane is usually packed full like sardines on a holiday. Today, he pretty much had the whole plane to himself. Imagine his surprise when I reminded him what the date is…
The girls sang in a concert with our homeschool choir at a luncheon for Veterans, police, fire, and EMS personnel at a local church. Last spring’s concert had a patriotic theme which is perfect for this venue. It was very cool.
Well, until Rooster came to inform me that his insulin pen was EMPTY and he had just eaten several helpings of fried chicken (DEE-licious, btw!), mashed potatoes, and corn and THREE desserts. Oi vey! I called Walgreens and had the refill waiting. As soon as the girls finished the second set, I grabbed them and we sped to Walgreens. Thankfully, it was time for a refill so the new pens didn’t cost a fortune. Insulin is NOT cheap! The week after Rooster’s diagnosis I dropped a vial of Lantus on the floor and it shattered. That tiny little vial cost $98.99!
Personally, I do not like September 11th. Not for the obvious reasons. It just really, really, really ticks me off that we have memorial services and flags at half-staff for those who died that day, yet we do NOTHING to honor the sacrifice of all the men and women who have lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. Don’t they deserve their own day? HOW ABOUT AN HOUR FOLKS?! Why is it that those who choose to serve others, often at great personal sacrifice, get paid very little in our culture while those who work only for themselves and their own good make great fortunes? Good thing it doesn’t take great fortune to know Truth and to have true happiness.
Enough of something about something. Or maybe I wrote nothing about something. I guess it would depend on your perspective….
I guess I think of Sept. 11 to honor the firemen, police, and other civil servants who daily put their lives on the line. So many died that day rushing in when everyone else was rushing out.
I do agree that we should also honor those who died in Afghanistan and Iraq.
